I would’ve made a lousy hippie. “All You Need is Love,” is a fine Beatles song, but I’d always found it a bit Pollyanna. That was until I spent the night in the closed down Goldfield Hotel (read A Reluctant Spirit). In the emotional aftermath of that event, I experienced mind-blowing, unconditional love from The Most Divine. Feeling such pure, intense love changed my life on every level.
Part of my ongoing education is to fully embrace love: for myself, other people and creation. Since January, I’ve consistently received meditative messages about love and how we need to incorporate it into every part of our existence.
Living in love requires personal awareness.
In life, we encounter limitations as well as people who can frustrate or disappoint us. To exist fully in love takes an awareness of our feelings, and how we react to others and daily events.
For me, my monumentally difficult times are when I experience Mast Cell Activation Disease flares. I struggle to love my body, love myself and love others during these periods of personal hell. In the short term, it may seem easier to be angry and sad, and to pity myself. But that ease makes the long term more demanding as I need to make up for lost ground before I can move forward.
So now, I make a strong effort to show myself increased love during these episodes. And by doing that, I recover more quickly than if I had berated myself. I like to think I’m doing much better at living in love than I did six months ago.
Like everything else worthwhile, it takes time and patience to become aware of when we stray from loving thoughts.
God is love. Love is God. The two are inseparable.
Love originates from The Great I Am and we were created to be love beings. By increasing the amount of love within ourselves and how we share it with others, we rewire our brains and help make the world a better place. During meditations, I’m being told that all creation deserves our love.
Here is one specific message I received:
“Love originates from the Most Supreme Being. Love is gentle, but it wields more strength than anything else. With faith you can move mountains, but with love you can move continents. Animals feel love. Trees feel love. Nothing is immune from love’s power. Love is the God source. Love is the ultimate gift. Where love fills, negativity cannot dwell.”
Love:
- Respects all of creation from people to reptiles and plants to insects.
- Generates serenity and joy, making us whole.
- Builds relationships.
- Relates to all equally; there are no favorites and no one is better than anyone else.
- Raises our energetic vibration and the energy around us.
- Cannot be contained when it is nurtured. Let it freely flow out of you.
Take time out of every day to internalize love.
On some level, we know love is out there. But how often do we allow ourselves to feel it? Unlimited love is sent to each of us and our lives get easier when we pay attention to it. For just 30 seconds each day, let’s really be aware of the love that comes to us. Consider the loving actions of a friend, family member and pet, or even a stranger’s kindness.
Allow God’s love to infiltrate every cell of your being. Feel yourself being lifted up, becoming free as you recognize that you are enough. Let divine love heal you physically, emotionally and spiritually.
Give love to those who don’t like you.
In Matthew 5:46, Jesus says: “For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have?” The point is that it is easy to love those who adore us, but not as easy for those who don’t treat us kindly.*
Those who are the most difficult to love are those who have banished love from their lives. They live superficially and without meaning. If we love those who are hurtful and selfish, we become beacons of light showing them a way to escape their misery. When they receive enough love from others, they will allow some of it to sink into their being, into their heart, into their mind.
One of the traps we can fall into is placing expectations on others. Here is another message I received recently: “If you go to people without expectations on how they will respond, you can more easily love them. It’s not your place to put expectations on them, as they already have enough expectations they’ve put upon themselves.” So, if we aren’t wearing our parent or boss hats, let’s not hold hope that others will respond how we wish them to.
How can you spend more time fostering love?
- Relax and accept that you are doing your best.
- Create an awareness when you are not feeling love or reacting with love. Love is always near and all you have to do is call upon it to receive more.
- Don’t compete: support and love one another instead.
- Express gratitude to bring your blessings to the forefront of your mind.
Where there is light, there is love. Where there is love, there is God. Let’s feel that sacred, mystical energy. Let’s live how we are meant to live.
Love to each and every one of you.
